Genetics....what a wonder?

I was recently contacted by an ebay buyer who stated she was curious about what color combinations I used for my AA reborns. I explained I was uncertain because I don't use any specific colors for every baby and each is different. She went on to state she wanted to make her own baby because she was tired of recieving reborns who look to be the "off color experiments" of other reborners. I will say I looked at her history and saw some of her purchases and saw not one thing off about the coloring on any I could see. Here's why!

As AA(african amercian), black whatever P.C. name you call us we can be ANY and I do mean ANY shade. That darn near white girl with blonde hair and blue eyes  you see on the bus or at the malland assume she's caucasian, well she can be African American. Never assume!

Don't believe me well follow the link to the story below and you're mouth may drop open.
          "Miracle" baby Nmachi's story

So, the next time you see a baby reborned and say babies don't have that much hair at birth, or her hair is too black to for her skintone to be that light,  AA's don't have mottling or blue eyes on a black baby no way, think again. Because trust me in nature it has happened already. While I do agree with one thing though. A reborner you wish to pass off as AA with the not accepted features should be done VERY well and with great attention to detail.

Well... A Toddler???

I know I said I would never do a toddler but OMG have you seen Greta by Donna Lee. I so want her. She is super cute and I love her thighs. She's also a smidge bigger than the others at 34 inches so she can wear 18month clothes and I have some already. I really do think I am going to do a toddler this year. I have been putting it off for two reasons.

1. They never seem to look like real toddlers, many just look like dolls unlike the babies we reborn. idk maybe it's the mottling.

2. A BIGGER head??? I am the queen of slow rooting. I need  to hire a rooter I'm so slow.

But.... I just have to have some adorable ponytails to do up for an auction and I love little girly girls.

                                    Adorable boo boo Greta!!!

As for what's up in nursery well. I am still rooting Kamden( andie donofrio)actually taking a break to blog then back to rooting her. Oh and elf ears well back to the drawing board. While they look molded well they cracked after baking I think I need to make them smaller because they can't be so far off the head or they get touched too much and don't hold well.

I haven't started my chicklet kit yet, and well I have cleared out some of the spring summer clothes I won't end up getting too, and a Steger kit  and listed them on ebay.

Elf ears

Okay so I am in the planning stages of a christmas craft show I am contemplating applying for. I had this Micheal Fagan Robin kit that has been staring at me probably a year. I was online looking for a kit to make into a cute Little "elf in training" and well that tongue just said "oh, I will make a cute as a button elf" so off to Micheal's for clay. Elves should be happy right? That smirk screams happy to me.

I had a catalog tutorial book from secrist from 2008 walk me through and it was a breeze. They have not been baked yet so aren't smooth yet but I think the overall form is fairly uniform and cute. so baked then a light sanding and let's hope they look right later LOL! Gonna work on making her a cute santa's elf costume too as the event promoters stress making your booth Xmas themed. So all my babies will be into the spirit. Still weighing the pros and cons of this show.

Nursery Notes

Yay!!! She's here. Chicklet just arrived today. However, I'm drained. I am a naughty pescetarian. What's a pescetarian you ask? NO meat, only fish, which wreaks havoc on ones iron levels, which = tired! I take supplements but, I am a horrible pill taker so... the motivation is all mind and little body.

Not to mention Ashton didn't find his mommy so I'm a little un-motivated at the moment. Sometimes the lack of a baby selling makes you question your skill. I am human too.

I have been playing around with my sales avenues and I drew some conclusions.

I have tried ebay with the famous $.99 no reserve. Disastrous. I think when people see your baby go low and can go back and view previously sold auctionS theY develop in their minds a worth for your doll and will not bid above that.

I have tried the "my minimum I'll take starting price" then come the emails asking "will you take less"

I have tried the low start with a reserve that one is a catch 22 because many times you get to the reserve but, no higher because once the reserve is reached people feel oh well that's all she worth since that all artist wanted to make so they rarely bid much higher.
This way can also be annoying cause if you aren't able to watch near the end you can have a bidder be a few dollars off the reserve and have the auction end unsold for being $2 away from reserve. The worst!!!

So my new thought on sales are I am gonna try to venture away from auctions and head towards Buy it nows on ebay, Etsy sales, local craft and doll shows, customs via my site and local advertising and sales on my own site.

So for my poor baby Ashton who is worth every penny a Buy it now listing it is.

She's ready

I received my invoice for my Marita Winter's Chicklet kit. I can't wait to get started on her. I think she will make a beautiful ethnic baby.

Off to go shopping for her clothes while I wait for her delivery. She's a small baby and I have an adorable custom made frilly pillowcase dress set already but need a touch more clothing for her. I normally do everyday clothing on my babies but for this one I think I may go more dainty and glamourous. We'll see though what I find that causes a gleem in my eye.

Not much excitement in the nursery happening today still trying to get my two babies hair done. I did get some super cute mexx brand shoes in the mail yesterday for my dawn donofrio baby Andie who will be renamed Kamden as I have a custom cloth diaper waiting for her.

After getting them though I realize they don't quite suit her outfits so she needs another for these shoes. They will look very cute with denim so maybe some jeans.

My goal is to get one or both of my babies being rooted on ebay right after Ashton ends within a day or two. I have noticed that to stay relevant and actually sell dolls on ebay you have to stay in the buyers sight which means working on several dolls at once and finshing them up one after the other so there isn't a large gap of not having any on ebay because buyers seem to move on to the next if you don't have them on constantly.

It's a pram!

So I know I'm super late but I don't enjoy taking pics much since it's always a struggle. However, here they are of the completed pram, finally. I changed that black fabric to this much softer more feminine floral. The black was cute but didn't have that overly girlie feel I was after.

and..... Sophia! In all of her adorablenesssss.

Btw, if you didn't know by now I love BIG pics. I want to see every little detail so dainty little pics don't do it for me.

Today's agenda

Ashton is now on ebay looking for his new mommy. No bids yet but several watchers. Hopefully these are the watchers who wait to bid at the last second. A bidding war maybe:) A girl can dream.

So now that he's done it's on to finishing the rooting on carrot top(sophia stoete) and a dawn donofrio andie I have started rooting. Andie is georgeous btw. She is a medium brown skintone with dark brown hair, so sweet. Both babies have maybe half their hair done.

I am hoping to finish one if not both before Saturday as I have a party to attend where a family friend who recently heard I make dolls wants to see one or some. She's a big time doll collector and may like them. *fingers crossed I get done and she likes:)

I also bought some new lens for my nikon camera. Five to be exact. I have been fighting that camera and it's grainy looking images on every setting I can think of to no avail. Maybe the macro lens, and the diffuser I have coming will help get better pics, Idk. I so want to improve my auction images as they help sell the doll. They should be here sometime this week. Yay!! If all else fails it will be a very good xmas as I have my eye on a canon rebel. I had a rebel 35mm a few years ago and LOOOOOVED it. Canon makes the best camera's don't they?

New nursery delivery *updated

Welcome baby boy Ashton

He is uber adorable in his head to toe Winnie the pooh. He will be listing on ebay this evening after his photo shoot today. Here are a couple sneak peek photos of him. I'm in love he has really grown on me. He is certainly one I will not be hurt to keep rather than relist should his mommy not be watching:)

Updated to add his ebay auction link below
