Rooting burnout and too much stuff!!

So in about March/April I really just felt burnout. Mostly it was the frustration of the micro rooting taking on a life of itself in the reborn world. I came into reborning when things were still jab but transitoning into micro rooting. I didn't jab root but I was in no way a one hair per perfect follicle in a perfect row rooter either. I was more a hand rooter as some follicles could have 3 hairs. So I just got slower and slower at reborning and the fun was being dragged out it. Add to that a major backache so sitting to root was agony, the hours of work and no market left for reborns made me say enough I need to step away. I had a whole room of reborning stuff looking at me too. I cleared that room and now it's a family room. I have now started to paint at my own slow no pressure pace a kit here and there when the urge strikes. The painting was the part I actually really enjoyed. I finished a Jarome May unassembled  kit with painted hair that I put on etsy with the mindset if he doesn't sell he doesn't sell. I never had a hoard of kits but would keep maybe 5 occasionally but even having more than one was saying to me finish up the one I'm working on because another is waiting. So after a LONG break of no reborning where I really thought I was completely done I decided to go back to painting at my own pace for a creative release. After completing Jarome I bought an Alexa Blick because my first desire was sold out. But the next day the other kit was available again. It was Nala Faber which I wanted because a smiling baby I had never done and wanted to do something differnt but at my own pace. So I have put Alexa in the WAY back of the closet and trying to put her out of my mind, but I will NOT buy any more kits.(Okay I'm lying I willl absolutely buy any Natalie Scholl kit that releases) If Nala isn't done til February well February it is. I decided to reborn for my own enjoyment like I used to and MAYBE offer up the final reborn.  My new reborning thoughts are NO PRESSURE on myself to finish a baby EVER.

So what's going on in the nursery, you ask??

So not much happening in my reborning today. I have the Brit Klinger preemie I'm rooting and Vienna Arcello started painting. I sat Vienna aside because she seemed to be going too purple on me and I wasn't in a thinking while I paint mood. So trying to color correct while in auto paint mode would not be a success for me and I want her to turn out well. Besides, Simon is so close to done I just figured better to finish him completely so I can focus 100% on Vienna. Did I mention that Vienna is one of my all time favorite sculpts? I just love how newborn she can reborn and those sweet lips just tugged at me. Therefore, she will get undivided attention after Simon gets hair.

New prop, Yay!!

So, I REALLY wanted a prop crib for my reborn doll photos but didn't have the space.  My facebook friends know I am on a quest to find new props. Well.... I was in Walmart and noticed the display toddler bed on a shelf. A light bulb went off in my head.

They had the headboard and foot board pushed closer together to show you what it looks like on a smaller scale. So off I went on my quest to do the same thing. I found that the toddler beds with the small guard rail built onto tthe headboard would work best to make into a small photo "crib"because I wouldn't have get creative to make the sides. This crib style below where the back is taller like a headboard with a lower front is what I had in mind when I started this process.

And this is what your are looking for in a toddler bed to accomplish this. See how it has the small railing. You'll need one like this unless you plan to build the sides yourself. Good luck with that, lol.

I purchased a used toddler bed for $20 on craigslist since I was not going to pay one hundred dollars and up to just cut it in half. You can probably find one reasonably priced on ebay classified for your area or craigslist also.

Getting started:
So I cut the rail off at the end of the safety rail then I pre-drilled new holes for reattaching the footboard. I then attached the footboard closer to the end where the rail stops with screws in the new holes. Since I was only shrinking the size the previous mattress slats still work I just use half now. All done that simple just a few coats of a very light grey paint and the cradle/bed was done.

This was the perfect size to fit a baby and not suck up a ton of space in my doll room which is boilng over with tables. I used a jumbo sized pillow that I tufted for the mattress which is an okay fit but a piece of foam cut to size would work better. I bought a nice set of bumpers I found on clearance for $7.99 at Kmart(my new best friend). I'm on the lookout for a cute mobile now and some nice embroidered pillows and owl plush animals to match a yellow owl banket I have that matches this bumper well. I suggest if you plan to tackle making one similar that you get the mattress first to make certain your measuring is correct width wise. Since this isn't for a real baby a small amount of space between crib rails and mattress isn't an issue and decorative bumpers can fill any small gaps that may occur. Here is a photo of my completed "crib".
